Meridian Mining is focused on exploration and near-term production opportunities in South America and beyond. The Company’s Espigão projectProject, located in in the state of Rondônia in northern northwestern Brazil, is already producing high-grade manganese on a pilot scale, while the Company is exploring a tin JV area near Ariquemes, with an early focus on re-processing tailings from the existing Bom Futuro mine.
Meridian’s Espigão Project, is already producing high-grade, high purity manganese on a pilot scale, with capacity expected to reach 50,000 tpa in 2017. Production is being sold to customers both domestically and internationally for ferroalloy and specialty applications including batteries, fertilizers, and animal feed). In addition to manganese, the Company has identified both gold and tin anomalies on its 140,000ha land package.
Bom Futuro Project
Located 300 kilometres northwest of Meridian’s Espigão Project is the Ariquemes tin district and the producing Bom Futuro mine. In March 2017 the Company entered into an investment agreement with the two operating cooperatives that grant it: > the right to provide tailings reprocessing services on certain tailings from the Bom Futuro mine; > the right of first refusal on either the acquisition of the mineral rights or the provision of underground mining services in 2,000 ha area surrounding the Bom Futuro mine; and > the right to earn 80% of the surrounding 18,000 ha unexplored area.
